Maureen Whitaker - MosArtOz

US-born Maureen Whitaker is an award-winning artist/graphic designer based on the Mornington Peninsula. She graduated with Highest Honours from Platt College of Art & Design in Colorado and was a freelance graphic designer for over 15 years before adding a paintbrush to her arsenal.

Her work combines interesting layers of textures with vibrant colours in an array of mediums. Best known for her ‘Reefscapes’, Maureen held her first solo exhibition in May of 2011. “I get my inspiration from textures and shapes found in everyday materials. I love to experiment with textiles, papers, organic objects and recycled bits and pieces, and find interesting ways to incorporate and manipulate them to resemble nature’s palette. People are often surprised by what’s there in my pieces when they look closely.”

Awards include ‘Best in Show’, 2009 Somerville Council Skateboard Design Exhibition for “Frangipanis on Safari” (Acrylic on Board),‘Best Mixed’, 2011 Derinya Art & Craft Exhibition for “Deep Blue” (Mixed Media/Glasscoat Resin on Canvas Board) and a 'Highly Commended', 2013 Dromana Art Show for "Trinity" (Acrylic/Mixed Media on Canvas).
