Sally Hanreck

We cannot direct the wind, but we can adjust our sails

Visual Art / Photojournalism / Art as Therapy
Although Sally originally studied modern languages and trained as a translator, she has always found The Arts to be the most effective medium for communication, equating all forms of creative expression to “a universal language that crosses all cultural and socialogical boundaries”.

A multidisciplinary artist, Sally’s work is largely autobiographical. She is fascinated by faces, the way they are shaped and animated by the stories and idiosyncrasies of the people behind them. A desire to capture that inner light, that elusive ‘something’ which makes each of us who we are is what drives her to keep exploring portraiture and figurative art using anything at hand, be it canvass, paper, clay, wood, printmaking, writing and photography.

As well as Visual Arts, Sally has studied Bi lingual Business Administration, Industrial Metalwork, Community Mental Health Care, and is currently completing an Advanced Dip in Arts Therapy.

Sally is a firm believer in using The Arts as therapy with people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds. For close to a decade, she has volunteered as an arts and crafts facilitator in aged care, child care, community centres and mental health care facilities.
