Frankston City Libraries posted in Creative Writing

There will be freaks and dragons at Frankston Library this February. Dragon illustrator Marc McBride will show his artistic techniques, and Cinnamon Girl Melissa Keil offers tips for writing about those awkward moments that create great stories.

Marc McBride has illustrated over fifty book covers and countless magazines, as well as producing artwork for advertising campaigns. He has a solid design background in both advertising and film, and won the West Australian Film and Television Award for Best Art Director. Marc has had work exhibited with the New York Society of Illustrators. He is best known for his illustrations in the Deltora Quest series, written by Emily Rodda.

Melissa Keil’s romantic comedy, Life in Outer Space, was the winner of the inaugural Ampersand Project, an initiative for debut young adult writers. It has been described as a ‘humorous, heartfelt and angst-y romance with the potential to break the gender barrier’. When she is not writing, she can be found immersed in other people’s manuscripts in her day job as a children’s book editor.

Come along dressed as some sort of freak or mythological character, for a chance to win a prize.

Bookings open on Friday 2 February
