The object isn't to make art, it is to be in that wonderful state which makes art inevitable - Robert Henri

My work explores contrasts: playing with a variety of colour, shapes, textures and mediums. Working intuitively, I use lots of layers to form a substrate of depth and rhythm. It's sort of like peering into a pond. You can see bits of the sand or mud deep below. But you also catch glimpses of the weeds, fish, insects and other bits that are suspended in between. I look for hidden images or shapes in my paintings and I'll work to excavate these; to express the final story.
